Momentum
The Power of Decision-Making

When we feel stuck and seek a solution, sometimes we look in the wrong place. The concept of momentum might help us discover another angle from which to approach a challenge with less effort.
Think of momentum as the push you get on a swing. In physics, momentum is mass (how heavy you are) times velocity (how fast you’re moving). In self-care terms:
Mass: This is your inner strength, energy, and emotional resources.
Velocity: This is the speed and direction of your actions and thoughts.
Momentum: This is the force you create when you combine your inner strength with your actions.
How Momentum Affects Our Life and Actions?
Momentum is like a superpower for getting things done and feeling good about it.
Here’s how:
Building Positive Habits
When you start a new habit, like meditating or exercising, it might feel tough at first. Your “mass” (inner strength) needs to pick up “velocity” (consistent action).
But as you keep at it, you build momentum, and these actions become easier and more natural.
Pursuing Goals
Momentum helps you achieve your goals. Taking small, consistent steps builds up speed and makes it easier to overcome obstacles. It’s like rolling a snowball down a hill — it starts small but gets bigger and moves faster the further it goes.
Responding to Challenges
Life throws challenges, but momentum can help us tackle them head-on.
When you have positive momentum from good habits and routines, you’re better equipped to handle stress and setbacks.
You’ve got a steady force pushing you forward.
Momentum Affects Decision-Making
Making consistent, positive decisions builds confidence. This confidence adds to your inner strength, making it easier to keep making good choices.
Ever feel overwhelmed by too many choices?
Momentum helps by establishing routines and habits, reducing the number of decisions you need to make each day. This frees up mental energy for more important choices.
Good decisions lead to positive outcomes, which encourages you to make good decisions. This cycle builds and reinforces itself. In Hebrew, we call this Koach Hanefesh, which means spiritual strength. Spirit is different from the soul.
Momentum is like having a conversation with yourself and the world. It shows your intentions, commitment, and direction.
Internal Communication
Momentum reflects your internal dialogue. Positive self-talk and affirmations build momentum by reinforcing your beliefs in your abilities and goals. When you take actions aligned with your self-care intentions, you tell yourself that you’re worth it.
External Communication
Your momentum also shows others what you value. Consistent self-care actions demonstrate that you prioritize your well-being. This can inspire others and create a supportive environment where healthy habits thrive.

Exploring Momentum
Mass: Your Inner Strength, Energy, and Emotional Resources
1. How does your energy feel today?
2. How do you perceive your inner strength?
3. Where do you source your emotions?
Velocity: Speed and Direction of Actions and Thoughts
1. How do you pace yourself throughout the day?
2. Do you find yourself moving fast or slow?
3. Do your thoughts impact your movement?
4. How do your actions affect the quality of your thoughts, and vice versa?
Momentum: Combining Inner Strength with Actions
1. What happens when you apply force in your life?
2. Do you use your full support and strength, or do you strain unnecessarily?
3. How can you better combine your inner strength with your actions to create effective momentum?
Practical Steps to Build Momentum in Self-Care
1. Start Small: Begin with manageable actions like 5 minutes of meditation or a short walk.
2. Be Consistent: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine.
3. Track Your Progress: Use a journal or app to see your progress and stay motivated.
4. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small.
5. Adjust and Adapt: Be flexible and willing to tweak your self-care practices as needed.
Dealing with Truth and Accountability
Sometimes, we avoid facing the truth because it’s uncomfortable. Ask yourself:
Where in your life might you be avoiding a connection or stepping into accountability by avoiding the truth?
How are you distorting reality to make it more palatable?
When we avoid the truth, we create an emotional imbalance. Here’s how to make tough emotions more tolerable:
Ground Yourself
Stay connected to your body. Feel your feet on the ground, notice your breath, and return to the present moment.
Add Stillness
Take a few moments of stillness each day. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and just be. This helps calm your mind and balance your emotions.
Breathe Into the Space
Use deep breathing to create space in your mind and body. Inhale deeply, hold for a few seconds and exhale slowly. This simple practice can help you process emotions more effectively.
Remember, momentum is your ally in self-care and life. It’s about combining your inner strength with consistent actions to create a powerful force that drives you forward.
By embracing momentum, you can build positive habits, achieve your goals, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence. So, start small, stay consistent, and watch as your momentum transforms your life.
You’ve got this! Keep moving forward, and let the power of momentum guide you to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
